Log Cabin Feel in a Traditional Home

Most of us have dreamed of living in a beautiful log cabin, but either can't afford it or don’t want to leave the luxuries of being close to civilization. You can still experience the log cabin feel without moving out of your traditional home. Turn every room in your home into a cabin just by changing your design theme to feature more rustic decor.

Furniture Switch up
Swap out your modern furniture for furniture with a more rustic feel, such as wooden or even leather furniture. Make sure the upholstery features earthy colors and can be accented well with plaid throw pillows or pillows that feature scenes from nature. Same goes for throw blankets. Pair up sofas and chairs with wooden end tables that have a natural stain and a glass, metal or wooden table top. For the bedroom, there are beautiful beds on the market that are made of logs that look absolutely beautiful in any home.

Walls and Floors
There is nothing natural about a purple wall or carpet throughout your home. When going for a log cabin vibe, ensure that you are using natural colors as paint choices for the walls. White is okay, but earthy tones are better. Keep in mind that none of the colors have to be dark. The darker the color, the warmer and smaller the room will feel, and the lighter the color the more open and bright the room.

This is true for your floors as well. Carpet is nice, but wood floors are better in a log cabin, and the same goes when making your home a cabin. Hardwood floors have a more natural feel and last much longer than carpet when properly maintained.

Natural Decor in Every Room
Drive home the idea of your home feeling like a rustic cabin in the woods by displaying natural decor pieces and paintings. Hang beautiful animal and landscape paintings in place of your more modern abstract paintings. Use flannel or plaid throw pillows and blankets on your sofas, beds and chairs in every room. Display natural statues and knick-knacks such as grazing deer or bears. All these little details can really set the natural vibe you're aiming for in your home.

Even adding some faux fur rugs in the living room, bedrooms and bathrooms can make your home feel more like a cabin and less like a traditional home. You can also spread the decor out onto the porch so the impression starts before your guests walk in the door.

If you love the idea of having a cabin of your own, but can't afford to build one, let alone the move to another home, just consider redecorating. It is easy to just change the design theme of your home. Do some research on what really makes a log cabin look amazing on the inside, and bring those details into your own home. Being in a cabin is very relaxing, and you could have that every day with just a little redecorating.
